Projects, and the switcher that decides what you see

Almost every screen is scoped to the ACTIVE project — the single most common source of 'my data is missing'.

In this lesson

What a project is

A project here means one job: one contract, one client, one site. The studio has four running, from twin villas in Westown to a coffee roastery in Korba.

Each row is a whole job, not a folder. Opening one gives you its own overview: how far along it is, who is on it, and what has happened recently.

Inside a job you will find its people. Being a member of a project is what puts its work on your dashboard in the first place.

The active project

Now the single most important control in the whole product, and the one nearly everybody walks past. This is the active project.

Almost every screen — the board, the drawings, the purchase orders, the cost report — shows you one job at a time, and this is where that choice is made.

Proving it

Watch what happens when Youssef moves across to the roastery.

Same board, completely different work. Nothing was lost; the villas are simply not what he is looking at.

And back again.

The habit

So here is the habit. When a screen looks empty, or the numbers look wrong, read the project name in the sidebar first. Nine times out of ten you are standing on the wrong job.
